Report: Envoy to OPEC says Iran refuses to limit oil output
MOSCOW, Feb 17 (PRIME) -- Iran will not limit its oil output despite a decision of Russia, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Venezuela to keep oil output at January levels on average in 2016 in order to combat the market glut, the country’s OPEC envoy, Mehdi Asali told Shargh daily newspaper on Wednesday.
“Asking Iran to freeze its oil production level is illogical ... when Iran was under sanctions, some countries raised their output and they caused the drop in oil prices…We have repeatedly said that Iran will increase its crude output until reaching the pre-sanctions production level,” Asali said.
On Wednesday, Oil and Mining Minister of Venezuela Eulogio Del Pino started negotiations with Iran, Iraq and Qatar in Tehran, trying to convince Iran and Iraq to join the upcoming pact between OPEC countries and large non-OPEC oil makers on oil production restrictions.
